Connect
Care
Creation
Love
These are the first four words that caught my eye this morning as I sought out the written word. Before that, meditation with a card pull. Nine of Earth (Pentacles). This card, a representation of personal gain through hard work, makes me pause to enjoy my accomplishment of recording my first guided meditation, a vision that became fully realized just a few days ago upon its completion. Today, the fifteenth day of September, 2023, we are in a New Moon in Virgo, a sign associated with attention to detail and planning. I gaze at my wall calendar and notice that Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown. I have no idea what Rosh Hashanah is all about so I take the time to research. Rosh Hashanah in Hebrew means “head of the year”. It is the Jewish New Year that celebrates God’s creation of the World. I, at this moment, have decided to write my first blog post to birth a new creative space for sharing. This string of events can be seen simply as random actions I chose to take, but a grander word comes to mind that helps me tie all these thoughts, circumstances and feelings together: Synchronicity.
Synchronicities, coined by Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, are coincidences in time we can string together with meaningful significance. Connection is the key concept here. Connection is why I am writing this and is the basis of all the work I do with the Tarot. It is the main concept within the cards and why I find them an invaluable life hack.
I fell in love with Tarot several years ago while I was going through one of my many spiritual awakenings. I discovered it has a deep and somewhat controversial history, but reinvented in Italy in the 1430’s with the introduction of the fifth suit of cards called trionfi, “triumphs” or, trump cards, it became the deck it is today. Some may use it as a tool for fortune telling, however I personally associate the Tarot with a deeper philosophy: that of self-realization and spiritual evolution, and I am not alone in this because there have been so many beautifully created interpretations of images and meaning portrayed in modern decks that it becomes a decision of personal taste to decide which deck to work with. For me, tarot cards are used in daily meditation. I start each day with a card pull. It gives me a glimpse of what energies and concepts I can focus on to support me on this cyclical and evolving adventure of life. I chose not to to see a particular card or spread as “good” or “bad” luck, rather what that card has to teach me. Though intuition guides my readings, I would like to state clearly that the “magickal” component within the Tarot is not in the cards themselves, it is in the interpretation and connection between the image, meaning, reader and the recipient that brings insight to life. The synchronous arrangement of those four words listed above: connect, care, creation, love, are the touchstones of my intentions, which is perhaps why they seemed to have jumped out of the page at me. Food for thought.
I hope in the weeks, months, and perhaps years ahead, you may choose to journey with me, learn more about the Tarot and consider bringing more of the wisdom of these universal and archetypal concepts into your daily life. I plan to provide conceptual information about the energies within the Tarot based on my personal interpretations and on my general knowledge thus far. One thing is for sure, this is a quest for knowledge and understanding that is never ending. I don’t believe one can ever fully grasp all the wisdom that lies within these 78 cards, but every day I learn a little bit more and hope you’ll join me now and then for the ride.
Until next time,
